In the baby room we have been exploring the season of autumn. We collected lots of leaves that had fallen from the trees outside and put them into a tray. We then made different scented playdough, including cinnamon, coffee and ginger. The babies really enjoyed feeling the leaves, crunching them with their hands and scattering them across the floor! They also enjoyed making marks in the playdough using their fingers and stretching it with both hands. The adults encouraged the children to smell the playdough and role modelled simple words like “leaves” “coffee” “brown” and “orange”.
Following on from this activity we will be looking at other sensory experiences including more scents and messy play! We will soon be looking at Halloween and the season of Winter too.
