Sheelagh, our nursery cook, planned for Pre-school to help make tea. She joined them after lunch and told them that they would be making a vegetable soup and how she needed their help. First they washed their hands, which the Pre-schoolers already knew they should do and were able to do that very independently. Sheelagh talked about keeping safe while using the knives. Sheelagh demonstrated how to hold and use the knives to cut the vegetables safely and Pre-school showed good control in using the knives themselves.
Sheelagh and the children talked about healthy eating and the effect healthy food has on our bodies. Once all the vegetables had been cut up, we put them in a very big bowl and Sheelagh explained what she had to do next in the kitchen.
At tea time, the Pre-schoolers were very proud of the soup and they all said how yummy it was.
