The pre school children have been enjoying National Allotment Day. They practiced and developed skills, identifying root vegetables (carrots and parsnips) and learning how to use a knife safely to cut them. With help, they were able to hold the carrot safely in one hand and the knife in the other to try to chop them on a chopping board.
Some of the children were confident enough to ask for help, but we all found the parsnip too hard to cut, even the adults! Once the tops were cut, we put them in a dish of water and we are now waiting to see if they sprout.
