The Preschool 2 children have been exploring pumpkins and squash

The children In Preschool 2 have been exploring pumpkins and squash. We have been looking at the textures and different sizes and colours of the vegetables. We carefully removed the top and the children had to guess what they thought would be inside then they put their hands inside to feel it.  We talked about where these vegetables come from and how they grow. We have been examining the flesh inside the pumpkins and also counting how many seeds. Some of the children talked about their experiences when going to a farm or shop and picking a pumpkin to display at Halloween.

We painted the outside of the pumpkins beautiful shades of greens, blues and reds, then the children washed off the paint and started over again using different colours.  We then used the pumpkins within a cutting activity where lots of string was wrapped around the pumpkins and the children had to help the dinosaurs break free!
