We have been talking about under the sea in Preschool 2 and have been looking at lots of books such as Sharing A Shell and Commotion In The Ocean, a real favourite is Tiddler by Julia Donaldson.

The children have talked about what creatures were in the story and Karen decided to extend this by bringing in some fish and langoustines from the fishmongers. The  children were intrigued and went straight over to the shell fish. First we talked about how they had a shell on the outside to protect them and we looked at their long claws. We then opened up the fish from the packet and the children commented that it smelt fishy!! We put on some gloves and all had a feel and investigated the fish. The children asked if it was a real fish ,we looked closely at its eyes and the hole in the bottom that the fishmonger had made. The children mentioned that is was cold and also slippy and they couldn’t hold it with one hand as it was too heavy.
