The children really enjoyed listening to the story during story time and counting the fruit on the pages of the book along with the adults. We got creative and used fruit to create a colourful fruit printing picture and we encouraged the children to count “One, two, three” as they made their prints. They were also encouraged to play in the water with the butterflies and other bugs, playing alongside each other and repeating phrases and words they had heard. It was so much fun, “Splish, Splash, Sploshing” and some of the children chose to use different containers to do some tipping and pouring, helping develop their fine motor skills. We have also been encouraging children to develop these fine motor skills even further by giving them access to the fruit threading during free play and encouraging them to thread the fruit on the string and count along with them as they do this.
