The children in Pre-school 1 enjoyed a trip to the shops, going on a hunt for some seeds to plant.

The children found a variety of seeds in the shop and they spent time looking through them deciding which ones to buy. Talking to one another they commented, “I like these seeds” and also noticed and talked about on the pictures of the packets, “We should have some tomatoes to grow”. They picked the seed packets they wanted and placed them onto the till watching the cashier scan the items.

Once back at nursery, the children enjoyed picking their own plant pots and seeds they wanted to plant. Using spades to transfer soil to their plant pot, the children filled their plant pots up with soil, then used their finger to make small hole in the middle of the soil. The children opened their packet of seeds and poured a few of them into the hole of soil, then used their hands to smooth over the soil covering the seeds. We spoke about observing their plants over the coming days and weeks to see the changes they could notice. Pre-school  are very excited to see what will grow and what they could do with their produce, some of the children said they wanted to eat the tomatoes once they had grown.
