Pre-toddlers have had lots of fun exploring potion making during outdoor play.

We collected together different containers, bowls and spoons to make our potions in and a range of natural materials that we could make our potions with such as leaves, mud, water and bark. Talking about what our potions were going to be and what we were adding in, one child said “Make potion, it magic!” To help add a little magic to the potions we found some glitter and little stars, which the children loved sprinkling into their potions. They commented on how magical the potions looked and that Santa would like our potions, the children said “Potion is for Santa” and “Like sparkles”. We decided that our Christmas potions are very magical just like Santa and that’s how he brings us lots of special presents!

The children loved mixing together different materials and exploring how materials change when they are mixed together. Each child showed good control over handling various equipment such as jugs for pouring and using a spoon to mix.
